Arboriculture and Forestry New Apprenticeship Standards
Government approval has been granted to two brand new Trailblazer apprenticeship standards which are set to benefit employers in the forestry and arboriculture industry.
The Arborist and Forest Operative apprenticeship standards have been developed over the past 12 months through a comprehensive consultation and input from over 40 organisations, including ABC Awards, encompassing the full spectrum of the industries involved.
The standards have now been approved by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills and lead the way in the government’s drive for apprenticeship reform in England.
Trailblazer apprenticeships are led by employers for employers and aim to ensure apprenticeships are tailored to the needs of the industry. The standards list the key skills, knowledge and behaviours apprentices should achieve in order to complete their apprenticeship.
Apprenticeship programmes, based on these standards, will give employers the confidence that their apprentices will develop the skills they need to make meaningful contributions to their company.
The final two standards, Horticulture and Landscape Operative, and Horticulture and Landscape Supervisor, have recently been submitted into the government approvals process.
Fiona Grant, Director of Awarding Services at ABC Awards said:
“ABC Awards has continued to work closely with both the Royal Forestry Society and the Arboriculture Association to provide specific qualifications for the industry and as a result has also been involved with the development of the forestry apprenticeship standards.
“We are delighted to see these standards approved by the Government and look forward to continuing to work with the group to meet employer requirements for their Apprenticeships.”
The next stage of the process is already underway and assessment plans are being written for each occupation to explain how to test apprentices’ expertise. It is hoped that delivery of the new apprenticeships will begin in the middle of next year.
