We have qualifications which form part of the apprenticeship framework, for more information click here
As employees, apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off the job, usually on a day-release basis, apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. Anyone living in England, over 16 and not in full-time education can apply.
Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices’ ability and the industry sector. * All employed apprentices will get a wage, at least the National Minimum Wage (NMW) however, as skills develop, many employers tend to increase wages – in fact, research has found that apprentices earn an average of £170 net pay per week.

ABC Awards has qualifications in these sectors* that contribute to Apprenticeships:
ABC Awards - our Brief Encounter
Mary Portas recently headlined newspapers with the launch of a new brand, Kinky Knickers, which throughout March was showcased in the programme Mary's Bottom Line, broadcast on Channel 4.
I feel a great sense of achievement now that I’ve passed my key skills as part of the apprenticeship.
Mary is fronting her campaign to resurrect British manufacturing by finding a suitable factory location and seeking out unemployed people around the Middleton area of Manchester and giving them jobs, manufacturing a new range of knickers made completely with British produced textiles. The Kinky Knickers are currently stocked by ASOS, Liberty, House of Fraser, Selfridges, Marks and Spencer and Boots (online).
I am pleased to have completed the NVQ, and am now qualified after forty years of sewing!
However, Mary is not alone in championing this industry, ABC Awards has long established qualifications in the Manufacturing and Textiles industry in Britain and were instrumental in working with the Sector Skills Council, initially Skillfast-UK and then Creative Skillset to produce the Apprenticeship framework in this sector.
Today has made me realise just how privileged we all are to have the opportunity this apprenticeship offers.
The 7 employees, working at the factory of Headon & Quarmby Ltd., are undergoing their apprenticeship and hope to complete their qualification in August this year. They are registered through KTL Ltd., a small private training provider based in Nottingham, established for over 12 years, specialising in delivering training within the fashion and textile manufacturing industry and are registered on the ABC Awards Level 2 Certificate in Apparel, Footwear Leather or Textile Production (Apparel Production) and the Level 2 Certificate in Manufacturing Sewn Products (NVQ).
I am pleased I took part in this programme. I have worked in sewing since I was sixteen years old, and now in my fifties I have got an NVQ qualification.
The learners knew from the outset that as well as employment, they were going to be registered for a qualification - and the possibility of an apprenticeship was mentioned. The learners were keen on getting recognition for the training they were undertaking.
Today provided an insight into the knowledge I will be gaining, whilst adding to the skills I already possess.
Chris from KTL did an induction with the learners before Christmas and after that all 7 learners were registered with ABC Awards. It is hoped the learners will complete their qualifications in August and there are plans for 3 follow up episodes of the programme to measure the success of the project. Orders have gone through the roof which has meant that there have been a few more people taken on at Headon and Quarmby to assist with production.

I feel excited about learning new skills on this apprenticeship. Having a qualification is great as it can offer security for future jobs.
