The centre, which offers ABC Awards qualifications in Fashion and Textiles, held an Awards ceremony on Friday 25th November 2011. The theme of the event was ‘innovation'. ABC Awards was delighted to be invited to sponsor the event at which we had exhibition stands and materials. ABC's Bernadette Done and Jacqueline Romanienko attended together with Margaret Ramsbottom, ABC Awards Lead Moderator for the Fashion and Textile Sector. John West and Jamie Petrie were there representing Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for Fashion and Textiles.
There was a 2 hour ceremony involving all the learners that had achieved a qualification with the centre throughout the year. Their friends and family and work colleagues were also invited to attend the event and join in the celebrations. The learners were rewarded for achieveing a variety of different qualifications covering subjects such as safety, management, customer service, admin, team leading, print, apparel and textiles as well as the graduating apprentices.
The local MP, Barry Sheerman was the key note speaker, other speeches were given by Bill Macbeth, the Managing Director and the certificates and prizes were awarded by Paul Johnson, Chairman of the centre. The learner of the year Awards were presented by Bill Skidmore, President of the Huddersfield Textile Society who gave an impassioned speech about the Textile trade and its place in the future of manufacturing in this country.
