Qualification Guides
From 1 February 2010, ABC Awards is changing the way it issues Qualification Guides (Specifications) for all newly accredited qualifications.
A 'skeleton' Qualification Guide - which will be the unit templates and Rules of Combination will appear on the website as soon as the qualification is accredited. This will be available as a PDF download for anyone to access.
A 'full' Qualification Guide for any newly accredited qualifications will be made available only to ABC centres with approval for this particular qualification / sector. ABC Administrators will email a copy of the full specification to existing and new centres that are approved to offer the qualification/s.
Centres wishing to become accredited for new qualifications should contact one of ABC’s Business Development Managers who will be happy to arrange a visit to explore the contents of the full Qualification Guide in person.

ABC Practical Languages Framework - Summary Table
Throughout 2008-2009 ABC Awards (ABC) has been working with the relevant Sector Skills Councils and Standard Setting Bodies to review, reformat and update ABC’s offer within this sector and to develop credit based provision that is approved on the new Qualifications and Credit Framework for 2009.
A number of Language qualifications were accredited for a 1st September 2009 start date. Unlike previous provision, each language is a separate qualification at a specific level, resulting in 172 separate submissions.
As each submission involves a lot of work including seeking support from CILT and QCDA, ABC has taken the decision that we shall only add additional languages at two points during the year. This will be in February/March and July/August. If centres wish to request additional languages, they will need to notify the languages administrator indicating which language/s and level they wish to offer along with anticipated numbers. ABC will then need to review the business case for extending the range of languages offered.
The qualification structure is the same for all languages, however the credit value of units may vary depending on whether it is a Roman or non-Roman language.
